POET OF THE DAY:FATIMA USMAN ZAHID

Image
TITLE: MOMENT AND ASH POET:FATIMA USMAN ZAHID (PAKISTAN) In a house with just one room, A home filled with love's bloom, Parents proud and sisters two, I felt secure, my heart knew. Fourteen years, time moved on, My mom's advice, her wisdom drawn, "Protect yourself," she said to me, From jackals outside, wild and free. My father, my shield, my guide, I trusted them, no fear inside, But this morning, mom's away, Responsibilities on me lay. Cooking, caring for my kin, Midnight hour, my patience thin, A knock upon the door I hear, Expecting dad, my heart draws near. But a change I can't foresee, His eyes, once warm, now couldn't see, Mumbling words, he beckoned near, An awful smell, a dreadful fear. "Daddy, are you okay?" I cried, His grip so tight, my hope defied, My safe house turned to ashes gray, My soul shattered in disarray. How could he forget the past, When I was young, held in his grasp? Torn apart, my innocence lost, In this safe house, th...

A SHORTSTORY BY DR. SHALINI YADAV

Image
"DISCOURSE"GLOBAL LITERATURE MAGAZINE SHORT STORY TITLE: BLACK MIRROR AUTHOR: DR.SHALINI YADAV (INDIA) Black Mirror A eleven year old in a floral frock, on a mattress, under the Indian Lilac on the parapet, struggles to find something into the wooden mirror kept leaning on a creaky chair in front of her. Adding to her innocence, the morning breeze carries her silky hair over to her face as her mother whispers in her ears to carefully look in the mirror as she removes her hair covering her face. Poor little girl with a solemn face has forgotten to chirp like a bird. Her uncle scolds her, urges her to concentrate and see deep inside the emotionless timer frame. The bright sun moves up from the east heading towards north, as the sunlight peeps through the leaves and branches of Lilac; falling on the girl’s face creating patches of various shapes. Her pale and nervous mother pats the girl’s back and asks if she can see her Malini aunt’s house in the mirror. The little girl has ...

"DISCOURSE"GLOBAL LITERATURE MAGAZINE  TITLE: ORAL TRADITIONS POET: ARITI JANKIE (USA) REVIEWED BY: AAMIR ABDULLAH The river ran with the man, wherever did he go, from the backwaters of India to the sugarcane fields of the Caribbean. Healing the agonies of a re-invention to slavery, the river watered the man. Water for the mind, food of endurance to the soul, verse by verse, the waters of an enduring oral tradition. Goswami Tulsidas 24,000 verses of Ramayana memorized, providing an answer for every question. The years rolled by, three months on a ship, five years of Indentureship endured. Poetry sang night and day watering the minds of the young ones, a noble tradition.  This river ran a tributary within, to keep me warm and whole. It fed me well to emerge with poetry in my soul, to write … The river ran with the man, wherever did he go, from the backwaters of India to the sugarcane fields of the Caribbean. Healing the agonies of a re-invention to slavery, the river wat...
