Title: Deadly Nectar

Poet:Khursheed Ahmed Wani

(Kashmir)

Who is saved from death?

All are equal before it,

Whether master or slave,

But self-slaughter is forbidden.

The rise of fallacy in the encephalon,

Is it not a sign of a great mishap?

‘Tis deadly nectar,

It darkens the mother’s lap,

Indeed, a deep shadow falls on the fam’

Why did it come into existence?

It extinguishes the glimmer of hope.

It makes the radiant face shrink forever,

Whoever did it commit a great sin!

Life is a joy,

Ah, enjoy it to the hilt-

Life is a precious gift though

Why has man become callous?

To me, its root is a social innovation

Oh, that harmony and candour

All ended in dubious deals!
