TITLE:VERYTHING FITS IN ONE LINE
POET: MUMTAZ HUSAIN (USA)
REVIEWED BY: AAMIR ABDULLAH
The fourteenth horse of the grand procession,
Weary and breathless, succumbed at last.
All embraced the creed with fervent hearts,
Bowed to the realm where faith imparts.
God remained distant, beyond my grasp,
No echoes heard, no teachings to clasp.
Dangling in the ear, a broken tool's grace,
Within history's iron bars, it found its place.
The Turkish boy, in hush, did stay,
As if a snake had scented its way.
As venomous fangs in bite conveyed.
Nestled its eggs in a lethal embrace,
In a chalice of poison, eggs find their space
We all kept extracting
The essence of meaning.
The pig, with audacious glee,
Claiming the sacred mark
on the cow's dome.
A hungry soul, my mother's plight,
The evening star, with venom's might,
Fed her a draught from her portion's height.
A fresh sun upon our brows did rise,
Surging from the worshipper's niche
on the forehead's guise.

REVIEW OF THE POEM
Mumtaz Husain's poem, penned in the context of Pakistan's Independence Day, masterfully weaves symbolic imagery to portray the struggles endured in attaining freedom. The fourteenth horse's exhaustion mirrors the nation's journey, with its people embracing faith and sovereignty. The distant God signifies the quest for identity and purpose. The craft employs vivid metaphors like the "Turkish boy" representing danger and the "venomous fangs" illustrating subversion. The "pig" claiming the sacred mark alludes to sacrilege, while the "evening star" hints at treacherous influences.
